Edmond was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in October 1987, in England and Wales in 1991 and in Singapore in 1995.
Edmond founded his own firm, Chan Wong & Lam, solicitors, with two other partners in 1991. He is a part-time consultant of this firm now.
Over the years of his practice, Edmond has gained wide experience in handling contractual, commercial and company disputes, contentious conveyancing litigation, contentious probate litigation, matrimonial, and personal injury cases. He also has extensive experience in advising PRC companies in setting up businesses in Hong Kong and related commercial disputes such as disputes in credit facilities and joint venture agreements.
After 14 years of solid practice as a solicitor from 1987 to 2001, Edmond took the luxury of a well-planned career break in pursuit of his spiritual and personal interests, including deepening his Buddhist meditation practice in monasteries in South East Asia, travelling worldwide, and visiting and helping people in poverty stricken areas in the Mainland and Myanmar. Over this period, he also worked as a part-time tutor in Civil Procedure for the Department of Professional Legal Education for three academic semesters.
With his spiritual qualities and knowledge substantially broadened and enriched, he resumed his solicitor’s practice in February 2009 and was one of the part-time duty lawyers of the Clinical Legal Education course in January 2010. He also acted as a mediator for a full-day mock mediation exercise for the Commercial Dispute Resolution subject in the PCLL course in March 2010.
Edmond joined the Faculty of Law as a full-time senior teaching consultant in August 2010. He is the course co-ordinator of the Clinical Legal Education course and is also a tutor in Civil Procedure of the Department of Professional Legal Education.
