Apart from basic biographical information and information about past academic performances and professional experiences, applicants will be asked to submit a personal statement of no more than 600 words explaining why they are suitable for the JD programme. Applicants are also asked to provide a writing sample, which should be an assignment or coursework submitted during their undergraduate or postgraduate study. In addition, applicants will be asked to provide two letters of reference from individuals who are qualified to comment on the applicant's intellectual capacity. At least one of the letters of reference must be submitted by someone who has taught the applicant in a tertiary educational institution.
Please complete the online application form by Monday, January 31, 2011. After you have submitted your online application, please post the following required documents directly to The Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong, 4/F KK Leung Building, Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong by the deadline (the post-mark will be referred to if your application is sent by post).
A complete application consists of:
1. A person statement;
2. A writing sample;
3. Original or certified copies of academic transcripts (certified translations in English where appropriate);
4. Original or certified copies of English test scores, if required; and
5. Two letters of reference (the letters of reference must be kept in a sealed envelope with refereeās signature across the flap).
Your application should include all of these items, except for your official transcript(s) and your English test report(s), which you may choose to instruct the relevant entities to send directly to us. You are strongly encouraged to send us a complete application as it can help us expedite the application review process.
Depending on the location and the availability of the applicant, he or she may be asked to attend an in-person or a phone/video interview. Applicants who are located in Hong Kong will be asked to attend an in-person interview. Applicants who are located outside of Hong Kong will be asked to attend either, where possible, a teleconference interview, or a phone interview. However, highly qualified applicants may be admitted without an interview.
Subject to availability of places, late applications will be considered.
Deferment may be granted under exceptional circumstances. Admitted applicants are asked to submit their request for deferment as soon as circumstances permit.
