Programme Structure and Requirements

A BSocSc (Govt & Laws) student is normally required to complete not less than 180 and not more than 198 credits of courses within a period of 3 academic years, which comprise not less than 93 credits of law courses, 84 credits of political sciences courses, and 18 credits of language and broadening courses. There is also an IT requirement. The programme is structured as follows:

Year One (63 credits)

Law courses (18 credits):
  • Law and society (6 credits)
  • The legal system (6 credits)
  • Legal research and writing I and II (6 credits)
Social Sciences courses (30 credits):
  • Faculty of Social Sciences electives (18 credits)
  • Making sense of politics (6 credits)
  • Politics and Public Administration elective (6 credits)
Other courses (15 credits):
  • Academic English for Social Sciences students (3 credits)
  • Practical Chinese Language for law students (3 credits)
  • Critical thinking and logic (6 credits)
  • Elective (3 credits)

Year Two (60 credits)

Law courses (39 credits):
  • Law of tort I and II (12 credits)
  • Law of contract I and II (12 credits)
  • Constitutional law (6 credits)
  • Administrative Law (6 credits)

Social Sciences courses (24 credits):
