Master of Laws in Chinese Law

Course Aims:

The LLM in Chinese Law addresses a growing need in Hong Kong and internationally for a more comprehensive understanding of the law and regulations of the People’s Republic of China.

The programme requires approximately 300 hours of class time. Candidates will be required to complete the equivalent of at least eight modules. A one-module is taught over a period of one semester while a two-module is taught over a period of two semesters. A candidate may elect to submit either a one-module or two modules dissertation toward these requirements. Drawing upon the expertise of Chinese law specialists, the Faculty is one of the few law schools in the world that offers a taught LLM programme in Chinese law conducted in English.

Mode of Attendance:

FT: Min 1 Year and Max. 2 Years
PT: Min 2 Years and Max. 4 Years

Entrance Requirements:

(1) A degree of Bachelor of Laws with good honours or an equivalent qualification; or

(2) Having been admitted to the professional practice of law in Hong Kong or in a territory or country other than Hong Kong; or

(3) Having obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University with good results, provided that in either case the candidate has also obtained at least a second class honours degree of this University or from another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose.

(4) Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree with English as the medium of instruction are required to satisfy the English language proficiency on the basis of one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Band 7 with no subtest lower than 6.5
