Course Aims:
This programme is specifically designed for graduates in law from non-Common law jurisdictions (notably Mainland China) who wish to acquire an expertise in Common Law as it is practised in Hong Kong and in other common law jurisdictions. Candidates will be required to complete at least 48 credits in value, including at least 30 credits of values designated as "Common law subjects"
The curriculum for the Master of Common Law extends over one academic year of full-time study. Teaching is in English and candidates shall be required to have an adequate standard of English.

Entrance Requirements:
(1) A good degree in Law from a university (or comparable institution accepted for this purpose) in a non-common law jurisdiction; or
(2) Having been admitted to the professional practice of law in a non-common law jurisdiction.
(3) A candidate for admission shall, if required, produce evidence of sufficient academic attainment, and shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if such an examination is required.
(4) A candidate who fails to meet the requirements above may, in exceptional circumstances, be admitted provided that the Faculty Higher Degrees Committee is satisfied that by reason of his or her background, experience and professional qualifications, if any, the candidate is fit to follow the course.
(5) Applicants may be required to pass a qualifying examination or submit satisfactory evidence of English proficiency if English is not their first language
English Language Requirement
(Only to be completed by applicants from universities or comparable institutions outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/or examination is not English.)
Notes : A number of English proficiency tests are accepted by this University for the purpose of admissions to higher degree studies. Applicants can choose to satisfy the requirement on the basis of any one of the following tests:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
A score of 97 or above (internet-based test) or 593 or above (paper-based test)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Band 7 with no subtest lower than 6.5
