These four programmes are offered to meet the needs of the Hong Kong legal community for shorter, specialised postgraduate law courses leading to a qualification. All the Postgraduate Diploma curricula involve approximately 150 hours of class time. Candidates are required to satisfactorily complete courses of instruction equivalent to four modules or courses equivalent to a total of three modules and a satisfactory dissertation on an approved subject. Modules offered include a variety of one-module and two-module.
A postgraduate diploma student who obtains sufficiently high grades in courses equivalent to four modules may be permitted to continue postgraduate studies in a part-time master degree programme, provided that the student holds a degree in law or its equivalent and submits an application for conversion on or before the prescribed deadline. The student may obtain an master degree upon satisfactory completion of further courses equivalent to four modules within the maximum year of study.
Part-Time: Minimum 1 Year and Maximum 2 Years
1. A degree of Bachelor of Laws with good honours or in another appropriate discipline with good honours with relevant background, experience and professional qualifications or an equivalent qualification; or
2. Having been admitted to the professional practice of law in Hong Kong or in a territory or country other than Hong Kong; or
3. Having obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University with good results, provided that in either case the candidate has also obtained at least a second class honours degree of this University or from another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
4. Applicants may be required to pass a qualifying examination or submit satisfactory evidence of English proficiency if English is not their first language.
