{"id":9246,"date":"2020-12-11T10:42:54","date_gmt":"2020-12-11T02:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.hku.hk\/prospective-students\/undergraduate-programme-introduction\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T10:51:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:51:04","slug":"ug-hku-pku-dual-degree-programme-in-law","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.hku.hk\/hk\/prospective-students\/ug-hku-pku-dual-degree-programme-in-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Undergraduate Programme \u00a0|\u00a0 HKU-PKU Dual Degree Programme in Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Programme Information<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This dual degree of Bachelor of Laws at HKU and Bachelor of Laws at PKU shall normally require ten semesters of full-time study, i.e., five academic years of full-time study. Students admitted to this dual degree programme at HKU will spend the first two and a half years at HKU and a further two and a half years at PKU.\u00a0 Upon successful completion of the entire programme at both HKU and PKU, candidates will be awarded an LLB degree from the respective universities, i.e., HKU LLB (common law jurisdiction) and PKU LLB (civil law jurisdiction).<\/p>\n<p>To complete the curriculum, a student shall pass in courses totalling at least 174 credits in value in the first two and a half years of study at HKU, and satisfy the curriculum requirements for the following two and a half years of study at PKU, which is equivalent to 126 credits in value at HKU.<\/p>\n<p>Students admitted at HKU shall follow the following <a href=\"https:\/\/dm.law.hku.hk\/regulations\/\">syllabus<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>First Year (63 credits)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Professional law courses (42 credits)<br \/>\nChinese language enhancement course (6 credits)<br \/>\nCommon core course (12 credits)<br \/>\nArtificial intelligence literacy I (3 credits)<br \/>\nAcademic communication in English (non-credit bearing)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Second Year (75 credits)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Professional law courses (72 credits)<br \/>\nArtificial intelligence literacy course (3 credits)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Third Year (first semester) (36 credits)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Disciplinary electives (36 credits)<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0.2em;\"><strong><em>Third Year (second semester), Fourth and Fifth Year (at PKU) (equivalent to 126 HKU credits)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Common and Foundational Courses: 38 credits<br \/>\n\u2013 University-wide Compulsory Common Education Courses (18 credits)<br \/>\n\u2013 Disciplinary Foundational Courses (20 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Disciplinary Compulsory courses (38 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Disciplinary Elective courses (15 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Graduation Internship (2 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Graduation Dissertation (3 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Admissions<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This dual degree programme looks for high-quality applicants from either Hong Kong or Mainland China. Eligible Hong Kong applicants should submit application via HKU Law, whereas Mainland students sitting for Mainland Gaokao should apply for this dual degree programme via PKU Law.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To be eligible for admission into this dual degree programme, applicants must satisfy ALL of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold a valid Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents \u6e2f\u6fb3\u5c45\u6c11\u4f86\u5f80\u5167\u5730\u901a\u884c\u8b49 (Home Return Permit \u56de\u9109\u8b49) and not be a student from Macau;<\/li>\n<li>Complete senior high schooling in Hong Kong; and<\/li>\n<li>Have a high level of proficiency in both spoken and written Chinese (Putonghua) and English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*Mainland students who obtained international qualifications (e.g., IB Diploma, GCE A-level) in Mainland China are <strong>NOT<\/strong> eligible for this dual degree programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Entry requirements:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0.2em;\">(i) Via <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jupas.edu.hk\/en\/eligibility\/\">JUPAS<\/a> <\/span>Admissions Scheme<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English and the best five HKDSE subjects, including category A subjects and M1\/M2, with at least an overall score of 42;<\/li>\n<li>Attained (A) in Citizenship and Social Development;<\/li>\n<li>Level 5 or above in English Language; and<\/li>\n<li>Level 4 or above in each of the best five subjects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Conversion of HKDSE levels to scores (category A):<br \/>\n5**=8.5, 5*=7, 5=5.5, 4=4, 3=3, 2=2, 1=1, others=0.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0.2em;\">(ii) Via <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/admissions.hku.hk\/apply\/international-qualifications\">non-JUPAS<\/a><\/span> Admissions Scheme<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GCE A-level: Minimum grades 3A* (excluding Chinese and English language subjects, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Global Perspectives and Research, Knowledge and Enquiry, Project Work, Thinking Skills, and Extended Project Qualification); or<\/li>\n<li>IB Diploma: a minimum of 41 points overall, with no score lower than 6 in any examined subject, and at least 19 points in three Higher Level subjects; or<\/li>\n<li>An equivalent standard in an alternative qualification that satisfies The University of Hong Kong\u2019s entry requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Applications<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jupas.edu.hk\/en\/eligibility\/\"><strong>JUPAS<\/strong><\/a><strong> applicants <\/strong>should submit the following <strong>by 23:59 (Hong Kong Time) on <u>31 January of the calendar year <\/u><\/strong><u>in which entry is sought<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit a JUPAS application with the HKU LLB programme (i.e., JUPAS Code JS6406) listed as one of their Band A choices; <strong>AND<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Submit a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/web.law.hku.hk\/hkupku\/\"><strong>online application form<\/strong><\/a> for this dual degree programme; <strong>AND<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Submit the following documents via <a href=\"https:\/\/hku.au1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_9YWKLzeRA1XnZoW\">Qualtrics<\/a> <strong>no later than 23:59 (Hong Kong Time) on 8 February 2026<\/strong>.<br \/>\n&#8211; Two separate personal statements, in both Chinese and English, for this dual degree programme in law<br \/>\n&#8211; School reference letter<br \/>\n&#8211; Official predicted grades report<br \/>\n&#8211; Senior secondary academic transcripts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.hku.hk\/apply\/international-qualifications\"><strong>Non-JUPAS<\/strong><\/a><strong> applicants<\/strong> applying the programme based on recognised examinations other than Gaokao<sup>1<\/sup> should complete the following <strong>by 23:59 (Hong Kong Time) on <u>31 January of the calendar year <\/u><\/strong><u>in which entry is sought<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit a non-JUPAS application with the HKU LLB programme (i.e., Non-JUPAS code 6406) placed as the first choice; <strong>AND<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Indicate their choice for this programme in the \u201cDual Degree and University Collaborative Programmes\u201d section under the \u201cChoice of Programme\u201d tab in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ug.hku.hk\/hku-applicant\/hku\/index\/login.xhtml\">HKU online application form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup> Candidates applying on the strength of GaoKao should apply through PKU<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 0.2em;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Notes for all applicants<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There is no separate JUPAS or non-JUPAS code for the HKU-PKU Dual Degree Programme in Law.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants who apply for this programme and the HKU LLB programme will be considered for both programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Given the small annual intake at each university, admission to this rigorous and demanding programme will be highly selective. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an admissions interview conducted by a panel comprising members from HKU Law and PKU Law in <strong>late March or early April<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement submitted via email will not be accepted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>L<\/strong><strong>ate applications will not be considered.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>All information regarding this dual degree programme in law is subject to change without prior notice.
