Abstract:
This talk will discuss how China is utilizing legal mechanisms to shape the development of physical or “embodied” AI such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, drones, and brain–computer interfaces. Through regulatory sandboxes, standard settings, and strict data controls, the state has created a unique, state-engineered flywheel by transforming real-world deployment into a durable source of data and cost advantage. The talk is based on Angela’s latest paper, available here: The Sixth Layer: The Legal Infrastructure for Physical Artificial Intelligence in China by Angela Huyue Zhang :: SSRN
Speaker:
Angela Huyue Zhang is a Professor of Law at the University of Southern California. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, she taught at University of Hong Kong for seven years and served as the director of the Philp K. H. Wong Centre for Chinese Law. Her profile is here: Home | Angela Zhang | High Wire
