PROGRAMME INFORMATION

  • This programme is open to students in the single LLB programme, with a maximum annual intake of three. 
  • Nominated students will spend a summer at Berkeley Law before their final year, beginning the first half of Berkeley’s Executive Track (Two Summers) US LLM programme. They will then complete the remainder of the LLM during the summer following their graduation from HKU (https://www.law.berkeley.edu/academics/llm/exec-track/). The standard duration for each summer session is 8-10 weeks. Students may focus their studies to earn a Certificate of Specialisation and/or meet the requirements to become eligible to register for the California Bar Examination.

Upon completing all course requirements at both HKU and Berkeley Law, students will be awarded an LLB degree from HKU and an LLM degree from UC Berkeley. The curriculum structure is as follows:

ELIGIBILITY
Third-year students in the single LLB programme with a minimum CGPA of 3.30 at the time of application. Nominees must also maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.30 at the end of the semester before departure.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested applicants should submit the following documents directly to the Faculty of Law Outgoing Exchange Team at  by 5:00 PM HKT, 23 January 2026 (Friday): 

  • Personal Statementof no more than 750 words, outlining the qualities, experiences, or achievements that distinguish you from other candidates, and/or any other information relevant to your application, such as highlights about your non-academic achievements. The statement should include your full name, university number, curriculum, and year of study; and
  • A copy of your academic transcript(s).

 

TUITION AND FEES

Students will pay tuition and fees to UC Berkeley. Selected students may be eligible for a waiver of the application fee.  The latest estimated cost of attendance for the LLM Programme (Executive Track – Two Summers) is as follows:

  • Tuition and Fees: US$79,328
  • Living Expenses: US$25,046
