About the Seminar:
As the economic corridor between China and Latin America broadens—fueled by record-breaking trade volumes, massive infrastructure financing, and strategic partnerships under the Belt and Road Initiative—the commercial relationship has entered a new era of complexity. While these ties present immense opportunity, they also introduce a unique set of challenges: cross-cultural contractual misunderstandings, regulatory volatility, sovereign risk, and logistical bottlenecks that can escalate into high-stakes, multi-jurisdictional disputes.
Organized by the HKU Master of Laws in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Program and co-sponsored by the American Society of International Law Asia Pacific Interest Group, this Summit brings together leading legal experts to share their experiences in recent case law, the role of arbitration institutions, and enforcement trends regarding China-LatAm dispute resolution. The webinar moves beyond generic arbitration theory to tackle the real-world challenges that arise when Chinese state-owned enterprises, Latin American governments, and private multinational contractors find themselves at an impasse. In addition, the program reserves an interactive session for professional development, offering lawyers and early-career ADR professionals not only theoretical knowledge but also actionable strategies to build a practice in this niche field.
