Ryan MAK
Ryan MAK is a PhD student in Public International Law at the Hong Kong University Faculty of Law. He obtained his Master of Laws specializing in International Law with Distinction from University College London (UCL) and was awarded the Cheng Cheng-Nan Prize for International Law for academic excellence after graduating from his Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honors also at UCL. Prior to joining HKU, he has gained working experience with the United Nations at its New York Headquarters (UNDSS) dealing with political and security affairs and in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (UNODC) handling counterterrorism and counter-drug trafficking law enforcement projects in West Africa and the Sahel Region. He also has research experience involving state silence in a project funded by the EU Research Council (ERC) and peace treaty initiatives under the Institute for Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT). He has travelled extensively to over 80 countries in the world so far, can speak more than 5 languages and has developed a passion in geopolitics, media communications and football coaching. His research interests are mainly in decolonization, territorial and maritime conflict resolution, sovereignty, international dispute settlement and international organizations.
