Summer Programme in Maritime Studies at Dalian Maritime University

Introduction
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Dalian Maritime University (DMU) have received generous funding support from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board to offer this summer programme. The summer programme is structured on an intensive basis that aims to provide a general understanding of China’s maritime law and shipping industry.

Period
**Flights to Dalian will be arranged on 16 June 2019 (subject to the final confirmation from the airline). Applicants are required to first reserve this date on their calendars.

Part 1 (16 June – 30 June 2019):
Lectures at DMU campus taught by DMU Professors and certain visits. (The lectures will cover the Introduction to Navigation, Maritime Law in China, Special Litigation Procedures in Chinese Maritime Law, and Port, Maritime and Logistics Industry in China.) The courses are cross disciplinary in nature for students from different academic backgrounds.

Lectures and seminars by guest speakers on maritime legal issues & DMU maritime law conference (open to lawyers, law students, judges, government officials and professionals from the maritime industry).

Part 2 (1 July – 6 July 2019):
Internships arranged via DMU in various shipping and logistics companies, marine insurance companies, Port of Dalian, Dalian Maritime Court, shipping law firms, etc.

**Return flights from Dalian will be arranged on 9 July 2016 (subject to the final confirmation from the airline). Applicants are required to first reserve this date on their calendars.

Fee
Free of charge. Round-trip air tickets are provided.
Accommodation will be arranged by Dalian Maritime University.

An applicant is required to give HKU a deposit cheque of HK$3,000 which will only be returned to the applicant upon satisfactory completion of the entire programme. Full or partial refund may be considered on a case by case basis if failure to complete the programme is due to medical reasons or exceptional personal circumstances.

Participants have to be responsible for their own expenses such as insurance, travel expenses outside of organised events, and miscellaneous expenses like telephone calls, meals and entertainment which are not part of the DMU summer programme. Each participant should consult a physician well in advance of departure to determine whether immunisations or medications are recommended. Participants should consider purchasing health insurance, and insurance for lost or damaged

All current LLB, mixed degree, LLM, JD, PCLL students are welcome to apply.
