Biography
Isabella Liu is an energetic legal academic and practitioner, currently serving as the Executive Director of Taught Postgraduate Programmes and the Deputy Director of the LLM (Maritime Law) at the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong (HKU Law). A graduate of HKU Law, she has previously held the position of Co-Director of the Master of Common Law programme.
Her teaching experience includes courses on HK Criminal Law, Introduction to Chinese Law, and the rule of law in both China and the global context. As the Convenor of the Rule of Law Education Project (ROLE), she leads this significant Knowledge Exchange initiative that aims to promote legal education and law awareness within the community.
She is also a barrister-at-law at the Chambers of Lawrence Lok S.C. She has gained invaluable experience as a pupil and junior in a wide range of criminal cases at different court levels, including murder, drug trafficking, bribery, money laundering, dangerous driving causing death, and various departmental summons. Her practice extends to cross-border commercial and family law cases, and she has passed the PRC National Unified Legal Professional Qualification Examination.
Isabella’s contributions to legal education and practice reflect her commitment to advancing a deeper understanding of legal principles in both local and international contexts. Her research interests encompass comparative criminal law and criminal justice, constitutional law, law and religion, and Chinese public law.
