Scholars who work in any field of law, who are based outside of Hong Kong, who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in research, and who are within the first 15 years of academic employment at the time of application, are eligible to apply.
The Fellowship is awarded for the purpose of enabling outstanding early career legal scholars to visit the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong for the purpose of:
- Giving lectures, seminars, or conference presentations in the Faculty, or
- Conducting joint research with teachers in the Faculty or research in topics for which materials are more easily available in Hong Kong than in their home institutions
In the case of (1), the topics of lectures, seminars, or conference presentations shall be determined by the Faculty in consultation with the visiting fellows concerned. In the case of (2), the scholar concerned shall submit a detailed research proposal when applying for the fellowship.
Each fellowship will normally cover (a) economy airfare to Hong Kong and back; (b) accommodation expenses during the stay in Hong Kong.
Each fellow should normally visit the Faculty for 1-4 weeks. The duration of visit will be stated in the letter of award.
During their visit, fellows will be hosted by, and concurrently hold a visiting fellowship at, one of the Faculty’s research centres. Applications shall include a CV, a statement of purpose, a cover letter setting out why applicants believe they meet the criteria for appointment, how their research falls within the remit of at least one of the Faculty’s research centres or the remit of the research of members of the Faculty, and the intended period of visit, as well as confirmation that they are within the first 15 years of academic employment at the time of application.
Applicants should declare in the application whether they have secured or applied for, or will apply for, other sources of financial support for the proposed visit.

Publications arising out of the fellowship shall acknowledge the support of the fellowship.
