Biography
Sam teaches Matrimonial Practice and Procedure, Civil Procedure, and Professional Practice and Management for the PCLL programme. He began his teaching career in 2020 as a part-time lecturer and co-course leader for the Family Law Practice course at City University of Hong Kong. Sam joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong as a part-time lecturer in 2023 and transitioned to a full-time role in 2024.
Prior to devoting himself to a full-time teaching role, Sam served as a partner at a boutique law firm and specialised in family law. He has 12 years of experience in advising clients on various aspects of family law, such as divorce, children’s arrangements, ancillary relief, children’s maintenance, guardianship, wardship, and cross-border disputes. As the handling solicitor, he was involved in several leading cases in Hong Kong, one of which influenced how assets are divided under pre-nuptial agreements recognised by the courts. He continues his solicitor practice as a consultant alongside his teaching role.
Sam obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Wuhan University and a Juris Doctor degree from City University of Hong Kong. He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2012 and was in the first batch of Hong Kong lawyers qualified to practise in the Greater Bay Area in 2022.
Alongside his teaching duties, Sam is developing his research interest in family law, especially matrimonial financial matters.
