As the handling solicitor, he was involved in several leading cases in Hong Kong, one of which influenced how assets are divided under pre-nuptial agreements recognised by the courts. He continues his solicitor practice as a consultant alongside his teaching role.

Sam obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Wuhan University and a Juris Doctor degree from City University of Hong Kong. He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2012 and was in the first batch of Hong Kong lawyers qualified to practise in the Greater Bay Area in 2022.

Alongside his teaching duties, Sam is developing his research interest in family law, especially matrimonial financial matters.
