AALCO Annual Arbitration Forum 2023

With the generous support of the Department of Justice of Hong Kong SAR, I am thrilled to announce that AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC) has secured the right and honour for Hong Kong to organize the AALCO Annual Arbitration Forum 2023, which will be a two full days international legal event to be held from 5-6 December 2023 in Hong Kong:

Theme: Resolving Differences in a Changing World by Staying True to the Bandung Spirit

Sub-theme:

Discuss and explore the latest developments in arbitration laws and practice in Asia and Africa, judicial assistance in arbitration, use of ODR and technology in a post-pandemic world, resolving cross-border e-commerce disputes, arbitrating ESG-related disputes, and counteracting supply-chain disruptions.

 

Over 90% of our 47 AALCO member states are active participants of the Belt and Road Initiative, China has committed another 780 billion Yuan (US$107 billion) to the initiative, and China has the largest consumer market in the world and is the largest trading partner with over 140 countries in the world. As an international city and Special Administrative Region that operates common law yet familiar with diverse laws, cultures, and languages in the region in a country with 1.4 billion eager consumers that are perhaps otherwise more familiar with the civil law, Hong Kong offers many unique advantageous under One Country, Two Systems. China has designated Hong Kong as the international legal services and disputes resolution hub as set out in the country’s national 14th Five Year Plan. Hong Kong is a super-connector and a springboard to access many market opportunities presented in the Greater Bay Area, Belt and Road Initiative, BRICS, RCEP and beyond. Hong Kong is consistently ranked at the top of global Rule of Law Index, handles many cross-border commercial disputes resolution as one of the top 3 most popular disputes resolution centres in the world, and most of our 47 member states have qualified lawyers residents in Hong Kong.

 

The AAAF 2023 will attract high-level legal officers, in-house counsel, business leaders, and other professionals form legal and related industries from the 47 AALCO member states (over 90% of which are active participants in our country’s Belt and Road Initiative) to attend our Forum in person and online. It will be the first time for Hong Kong to host such a special international legal event under the auspices of AALCO and attended by legal officers, business executives, and legal professionals from major countries in Asia and Africa. I trust that the leadership team and members of your organization will enjoy mingling with the delegates of the event to access more legal services provision and cooperation opportunities presented in the Greater Bay Area, Belt and Road Initiative, BRICS, RCEP and beyond.
