About the Talk:
Advocacy in international arbitration comes to the fore at cross-examination, a common law inspired practice that seeks to ascertain the true recollection of events by witnesses of facts, and to extract the absolute truth in expertise presented by experts. Toby Landau KC is an undisputed master of cross-examination, having acted as counsel is some of the most challenging arbitrations of our times, but also having observed others cross-examine witnesses and experts at hearings where he acted as arbitrator.
In this academic fireside chat with the HKU LLM ADR, Toby Landau KC, in conversation with our Deputy Executive Director Olga Boltenko, will explore the advocacy skill of cross-examination. The academic fireside chat draws inspiration from the keynote address by Toby Landau KC at the annual Kaplan lecture in Hong Kong n 2010 “Tainted Memories: Exposing the Fallacy of Witness Evidence in International Arbitration.
