Synopsis
This roundtable brings together lawyers, jurists, and other experts to discuss paths forward in the aftermath of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal’s decision in Sham Tsz Kit v Secretary for Justice (2023) 26 HKCFAR 385. It aims to offer an analysis of relevant judicial developments, legislation, and possible future trajectories on the issue of recognition of same-sex relationships in Hong Kong. Participants will offer constitutional, comparative, and human rights perspectives on this timely and complex area of law. The discussion is intended to inform practitioners, policymakers, legal professionals, and academics with an interest in family law and questions of legal equality.
