In our first webinar in Law and Common Prosperity Series, Dr. Angela Zhang will discuss China’s recent regulatory crackdown over the tech sector. The webinar will draw upon insights from her new book Chinese Antitrust Exceptionalism: How the Rise of China Challenges Global Regulation (Oxford University Press) and new article Agility Over Stability: China’s Great Reversal in Regulating the Platform Economy to unravel the complicated dynamics in the Chinese regulatory process. This webinar is jointly hosted by the Centre for Chinese Law, Hong Kong University Graduates Association and Hong Kong Ideas Center.

Speaker:
Dr. Angela Zhang is an associate professor of law and the director of the Centre for Chinese Law at the University of Hong Kong.  An award-winning legal scholar, Angela is a highly sought-after commentator on Chinese antitrust issues. Before joining the University of Hong Kong, Angela taught at King’s College London and practiced law for six years in the United States, Europe, and Asia. 

 

Moderator:

Mr. Henry Tan is co-founder and general partner of Q Venture Partners. He helps the startups on matters related to China market entry and operations. Previously, he was the Managing Director of Brio Ventures, a family office that invested in early-stage Chinese startups either directly or as an LP in angel funds. A graduate from Cornell University, Henry first worked at AT&T Broadband helping them with market strategy. After earning his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, he returned to Asia as a Team Leader at Bain & Co. Later, he took on the role of Head of Corporate Development for both Ports Design (HK:0589) and PCD Stores (HK:0331).
