About the Speaker:

Judge Min Kyung Kim is currently a judge in Korea. During her eleven year career in the judiciary, she has presided over civil, commercial, and criminal cases but her main expertise is in international commercial litigation including arbitration-related cases (annulment, recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards) as she sat in the special division for international commercial cases at the Seoul Central District Court.

 

Judge Kim has participated in the recent amendment of the Korean Arbitration Act and contributed to enacting new court procedure rules in relation to international arbitration. She is a co-author of the Korean judiciary’s practice guide on international arbitration issues published by the Supreme Court of Korea. She also served as a working group member under the Supreme Court of Korea to publish reports for UNCITRAL Working Group Ⅱ.

 

Judge Kim holds a BA from Seoul National University in Business Administration and Law, MA from Seoul National University (Master’s dissertation: Annulment of Arbitral Awards-a Comparison of English and Korean Law and Practice), LLM from University of Cambridge (Queens’ College) focusing on international commercial litigation. She is currently a PhD candidate at Seoul National University. Her PhD thesis covers issues of overriding mandatory rules in international commercial disputes.
