The Master of Laws in Medical Ethics and Law, or the LLM (MEL), is a ground-breaking cross-disciplinary Masters programme offered by the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong.  It is the first of its kind in Hong Kong.  It is also the first programme of its kind regionally in East Asia that is taught in the English language.
 
Applications for the September 2020 intake of the programme will close on 28 February 2020 (Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon).
 
The curriculum is designed as an integrated interdisciplinary one that addresses concerns of growing importance in the health professions, law and business, and it spans important topics such as consent and confidentiality, research best practice, ethics at the end of life and the nuances of medical negligence. The programme is open to candidates with a degree in law, or in medicine. But candidates are not restricted to those with a degree in law or in medicine: suitable candidates with relevant professional experience holding a degree in a discipline other than law or medicine will also be considered.  For more details of the admission requirements, see https://llm.law.hku.hk/mel/ under ‘Admission requirements’.  The curriculum offers a valuable guide to the fundamental ethical, legal and social issues influencing the delivery of healthcare, and provides a guide to confidently negotiating the increasing legal, ethical and policy complexities and quandaries of modern clinical practice and biomedical research.
 
The programme is offered on a full-time (1-year) or part-time (2-year) basis so that professionals can carry out their studies while maintaining career commitments.

The information session is intended to give prospective applicants an overview of the programme, and an opportunity to meet faculty members in person, and to ask questions about the programme.
