The HOCHELAGA LECTURES commemorate the life and interests of the anonymous donor’s father. The first Hochelaga Lecture of 2017 was delivered by Professor Luke Nottage in July. The second Hochelaga Lecture of 2017 was delivered by Dr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference, in September.

About the Event: 
Professor Dogauchi will lecture on the questions of jurisdiction and applicable law when a nuclear accident causes trans-boundary damage. His lecture on 4 December will do so from the viewpoints of Japanese law, US law, and the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage. On 5 December, he will discuss the matter from the Hong Kong law perspective, on the assumption that the Convention does not apply, as well as on the assumption that the Convention applies. The lecture and seminar are open to everyone. Attendance at the lecture is not a pre-requisite for attendance at the seminar. About the Speaker:
Professor Masato Dogauchi is senior counsel at Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in Tokyo. He is also Professor at Waseda University Law School. He specialises in the conflict of laws, international dispute resolutions and international trade law. He is President of the Private International Law Association of Japan. He was Rapporteur for the 2005 Hague Choice of Court Agreements Convention. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo.
