Join us for an engaging panel discussion at the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong, on the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, titled The Legacy and Significance of the Geneva Conventions. This event, complementing our photo exhibition “Dialogues on Humanity,” will delve into the enduring impact of the Geneva Conventions and their relevance in today’s rapidly changing world. Moderated by Professor Simon Young, Ian Davies Professor in Ethics at Faculty of Law of The University of Hong Kong, the discussion will feature three distinguished speakers:
Dr. Liu Xinyan is the Legal Adviser at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for East Asia. Since joining the ICRC in 2005, she has held multiple roles within the delegation before assuming her current position. Before her tenure at the ICRC, Dr. Liu was an Assistant Researcher and Lecturer at the Institute of International Law at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
Prof. Alex Fan, M.H., is a practising barrister in Hong Kong, a Greater Bay Area attorney in PRC, President of Hainan International Arbitration Court as well as Adjunct Professor of Hong Kong Baptist University. He has been serving as Humanitarian Education Advisor to Hong Kong Red Cross for many years. Since 2018, he has been invited by the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and Hong Kong Red Cross to serve as a member of the Organising Committee for the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot.
Jason Yip is an award-winning leader in the social sector with over a decade of experience in humanitarian assistance and youth development across Asia and conflict-affected countries. Currently the CEO of Service Hubs, he specializes in AI-powered business solutions. His impressive resume includes being the former CEO of MWYO in Hong Kong and the Regional Head at ICRC, working in Geneva and on the ground in numerous countries.
Together, they will explore the legacy of these pivotal treaties and their continued importance for humanitarian values and international law.
