Clinical Legal Education Programme receives the Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award 2015

297

Mr. Eric Cheung and his team are delighted to receive the Faculty Knowledge Exchange (KE) Award for outstanding accomplishments achieved in the “Clinical Legal Education Programme” (the CLE Programme). The Awards were introduced in 2011 by the University in order to recognize each Faculty’s outstanding KE accomplishment that has made demonstrable economic, social or cultural impact to benefit the community, business/industry, or partner organizations.

Eric Cheung observes that we are the first Law Faculty to establish a CLE programme in Hong Kong. The CLE Programme achieves a quadripartite stakeholder synergy among law teachers, students, outside volunteer lawyers and clients and taps resources to disseminate legal knowledge to meet unmet needs in society. It bridges the gap by contextualising students’ textbook knowledge and disseminating HKU’s legal expertise to fill important legal knowledge and service gaps in the community and to enhance citizens’ rights and empower the community. We contribute to the rule of law and rectify some ‘miscarriage of justice’ cases. Since its introduction in January 2010, our CLE programme has provided quality legal advice and assistance to more than 600 clients with very positive feedback. Please visit the Clinical Legal Education Programme website (https://www.law.hku.hk/cle/) for more information.
