“Hong Kong Basic Law Conference: Retrospect and Prospect” and Book Launch

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the making of the Hong Kong Basic Law, the Centre for Chinese Law of the Faculty of Law, the University of Hong Kong co-organized on 16 May 2015 a conference on “25 Years of the Hong Kong Basic Law: Retrospects and Prospects” and a book launch for “Perspectives of the Hong Kong Basic Law” 《香港基本法面面觀》, published in Hong Kong by Joint Publishing (三聯書店). The other co-organizing institutions for the conference were Joint Publishing (H.K) Ltd, the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies (全國港澳研究會), and the Shenzhen University Research Centre for the Basic Laws of Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions.

Speakers at the conference included Professor Lau Siu-kai (Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies), Professor Albert Chen of the Faculty of Law and Professor Zou Pingxue of Shenzhen University (Chen and Zou are the co-editors of the book “Perspectives of the Hong Kong Basic Law”), Professor Han Dayuan (Dean of the Law School of Renmin University of China), Professor Wang Zhenmin (Dean of the Law School of Tsinghua University), Professor Rao Geping of Peking University (member of the Hong Kong Basic Law Committee), Professor Lin Feng (Associate Dean of the Law School of City University of Hong Kong), Professor Zhu Guobin (of the Law School of City University of Hong Kong), and other scholars from mainland China and Hong Kong. More than 100 participants attended the conference, including journalists from the Hong Kong media.
