Penn Law and Law Faculty Renew Unique JD/LLM Student Exchange Programme

UPenn2

The Faculty was very happy to receive a visit from Dean Wendell Pritchett and Associate Dean for International Affairs Rangita de Silva de Alwis of the Faculty of the Law at the University of Pennsylvania on 12 March 2015. U Penn Law, one of the leading schools in the United States, has long enjoyed a very warm relationship with HKU Law Faculty. In 2013, our Professor Fu Hualing, now Associate Dean for China and Mainland Affairs, was a Bok International Visiting Professor at U Penn. Last year, former Dean Professor Johannes Chan was similarly honoured. In May 2014, our Dr Sun Haochen jointly organized with U Penn Law a very successful Conference on “Value Pluralism and Intellectual Property Law” at HKU.

The U Penn delegation and key members of the administration of HKU Law Faculty had a very fruitful and congenial meeting where the highly successful JD (HKU) / LLM (U Penn) collaborative double degree programme was renewed, and avenues for deeper cooperation were enthusiastically discussed. Apart from the official business, Dean Pritchett had an intense discussion with our Dr Qiao Shitong on a matter of common interest – urban land use and development.

HKU Law Faculty looks forward to an even closer relationship with U Penn Law and hopes that one day Dean Pritchett can be enticed back to Hong Kong to teach a course on Urban Law, perhaps together with Dr Qiao.
