Privacy and Innovation: In Pursuit of Right Incentives
The Law and Technology Centre hosted an international conference on “Privacy and Innovation: in Pursuit of Right Incentives” (www.lawtech.hk/pni), on 8 – 9 June 2015. The conference was co-organised by the Institute for Information Law (IViR), the University of Amsterdam, and the Internet Society Hong Kong, with support from Microsoft and Google. Speakers came from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States and Hong Kong.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the balance between innovation and rights-based approaches to privacy and data protection. Keynote speakers included Allan Chiang (Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data), Peter Fleischer (Global Privacy Counsel, Google), Kristina Irion (Marie Curie Fellow, Institute for Information Law, University of Amsterdam) and Laura Lemire (Privacy and Security Attorney, Microsoft).
